Jim Mullin is an advisor to Veritec Solutions. He has over 20 years experience in designing and serving as project manager of decision support system implementations and in leading ongoing operational process, program, and organizational execution to maximize the benefits of these solutions. He has done this from multiple perspectives: as the external systems supplier and consultant as well as the internal customer and user of such systems.
Most recently he served as Vice President of Supply Chain Operations at Blackhawk Network (a subsidiary of Safeway) that is a pioneer in third party stored value programs such as prepaid financial and gift cards. In this role, he was responsible for the groups managing all forecasting, allocation, and distribution services in North America during a period of >300% growth. Jim built the supply chain team from three to eighteen people, developed an internal Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process involving Sales, Finance, Operations, product vendors, and 3PL providers. In addition he oversaw the design and implementation of the company’s first ordering and inventory management system, including the auto-replenishment direct-to-store distribution channel that now represents the majority of total distribution volume for the company.
Prior to Blackhawk, Mr. Mullin held operational management positions at three companies:
At Amazon.com, Jim’s department was responsible for S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning)– the driver of inventory flow, capacity, and labor planning– as well as transactional inventory planning systems (product forecasting, network allocation, buying, and removals), and order fulfillment planning systems (for optimal order assignment to Amazon’s network of warehouses and partners).
At Sun Microsystems, Jim created and managed the Advanced Planning Group within Sun’s worldwide operations. This group developed decision tools and automated processes by integrating information, ad hoc processes, and technology across a diverse set of organizations (internal and external) in order to improve and streamline forecasting and supply planning.
At Webvan Group, Jim directed the “back office” business process group, responsible for system and process design for merchandising, supply chain, and finance functions during period of rapid growth.
Jim started his career in management sciences at Decision Focus as a business analyst focusing on implementation of decision support systems. He led design and development of revenue management systems and processes for companies in the travel & leisure, package delivery, and electric utility industries.
He received his MS degree in Operations Research from Stanford University and his BS degree in Industrial Engineering from Cornell University.
